Zara attends Catalysis Summer School at University of Liverpool

South West College’s PhD researcher, Zara Shiels, has attended the Catalysis Fundamentals & Practice Summer School hosted by the University of Liverpool.  Zara was able to present her work to a range of researchers working in the field.

The Summer School provided an introduction to the fundamental aspects of catalysis such as homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, as well as providing a broadening update of the knowledge base.  The weeklong event gave an interesting insight into some of the frontier developments occurring in the field of catalysis, as well as exciting new applications presented by distinguished academics.  The Summer School not only provided a forum for discussion but also an opportunity to foster new professional contacts.

Zara presented her research through a poster, which gave an overview of progress on “Ionic Liquid Assisted Synthesis of Nanocatalysts for the Direct Conversion of CO2 to Hydrocarbons“.  This included comparisons of XRDs, particle size and TPR between the conventional precipitation method and the ionic liquid based methods of synthesis, as well as results of the first high-pressure experimentation carried out on the ionic liquid method in this piece of research.
