Renewable Engine PhD Researchers’ contribution to PPE Production

With a global shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) to fight against COVID-19, a call for support was put out by Sligo University Hospital and the Health Service Executive Ireland. On responding to the request, a team of volunteers at the Institute of Technology Sligo set up a mini production line to manufacture face shields for front-line staff. Using 3D printing technologies, Renewable Engine PhD researchers Snehamol Mathew and Seán O’Connor contributed to the development of 12,000 face shields produced over seven weeks. On assembly, the face shields were distributed to front-line services such as hospitals, nursing homes and Garda Stations.
