Renewable Engine PhD Researcher at 11th annual Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association Conference

Renewable Engine PhD Researcher, Maria Damaskou, has attended the 11th annual Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association Conference (SHFCA2019) held in Aberdeen on 2nd October 2019.

The conference’s theme was “Delivering Scotland’s Energy Transition and the Net Zero Target”, with a special focus on Hydrogen and Fuel Cell technologies as key solutions in energy transition for Scotland and the wider European region. The conference was part of the wider Aberdeen Hydrogen Festival 2019 and incidentally, Aberdeen has the largest fuel cell installation in the UK (1.4 MWe) and is a showcase of transformative projects and successful deployment of Hydrogen. The event brought together specialists from academia, industry, government and local Councils to share their expertise and discuss Hydrogen and Fuel Cell latest advances with examples from the UK, Germany and the USA.

Maria presented a poster with the title “Techno-Economic Modelling and Optimal Dispatch of Decentralised Sustainable Energy Systems”, which gave an overview of the work being conducted in energy modelling, in collaboration with Doosan Babcock Ltd. The project has progressed in the development of a decision-making tool that suggests how to adjust the operation of fuel cells – and potentially more sustainable technologies – in order to meet the end user’s energy demand and achieve various objectives such as lowest running costs or carbon emissions. The conference offered Maria the opportunity to engage and receive feedback from industry experts.
